Carpe Diem in Barbados - Ghost rowers arrival watch!
15:29 p.m. EST Mar 8, 2004
Carpe Diem just finished, Ghost rowers are expected any hour. Latest report on their position was yesterday, March 7, 19.00 GMT (2.00pm EST) - at 130 miles to Barbados. They had averaged 61 miles in the previous day.
With that speed, they could arrive any time through tonight and tomorrow.
The Ocean Rowing society were inspired by our Ghost Rowers story and have (kindly enough considering the circumstances) created a position map for the Ghost Rowers and their boat "Against All Odds".
It was a very tight race between them and Carpe Diem, remerkable considering that the Ghost rowers went out days after the Regatta start. They've been rowing day and night to make it to Barbados - against all odds!
Check the Oceanrowing website for their position and also for more details on the team (top right on homepage).
The Ocean rowing society is arranging the Atlantic Rowing Regatta 2004, with thirteen official teams rowing from Spain to Barbados.
Two of the rowers, Brett and Scott's sponsorship fell through when the government of Zimbabwe put a ban on foreign money. They couldn't pay for the boat or the Regatta entrance fee. But when the boat was delivered by a mistake, Brett and Scott painted "save Zimbabwe" all over it and left for Barbados outside the official race. Their boat "against all odds" took off with the speed of light and the crew is now just steps behind the two winning boats.
