Map of Ghost Rowers position!
13:01 p.m. EST Mar 3, 2004
The Ocean Rowing society were inspired by our Ghost Rowers story and have (kindly enough considering the circumstances) created a position map for the Ghost Rowers.
The guys boat "Against All Odds" is 483 miles from Barbados harbor and last daily average was 65 miles. We had estimated they'd be on dry land this mid week, but next week is a better guess now that we know their exact position.
It's a very tight race between them and Carpe Diem, pretty amazing considering the Ghost rowers went out days after the Regatta start. Apparently they've been rowing day and night to make it to Barbados - against all odds!
Check the Oceanrowing website for their position compared to Carpe Diem and also for more details on the team (top right on homepage).
The Ocean rowing society is arranging the Atlantic Rowing Regatta 2004, with thirteen official teams rowing from Spain to Barbados.
Two rowers, Brett and Scott, saw their sponsorship fall through when the government of Zimbabwe put a ban on foreign money. They couldn't pay for the boat or the Regatta entrance fee. But when the boat was delivered by a mistake, Brett and Scott painted "save Zimbabwe" all over it and left for Barbados outside the official regatta. Their boat "against all odds" took off with the speed of light and the crew is now just steps behind the official leading boat.
