National Navy sheltering Maud

Latest update on Maud's website:

"At the present (22h/10pm local - 5 pm EST) Maud is obviously in the night in front of the lights of the port of Coruna. It has now been two complete nights without sleep for Maud. She waits for someone to find a solution and not to let her only land on the coast... A boat of the National Navy has joined her, with its broad side protecting her from the cargo liners."

French rower Maud Fontenoy set out from St. Pierre et Miquelon, Canada on June 13 in an attempt to become the first woman to row across the Atlantic West to East.

Maud has been out for 116 days. She is currently 5 miles from the Spanish coast, it's dark but she can clearly see the lights of land. Earlier today, Maud rowed to a point just above Coruna. "She was so close she could touch the rocks" her webmaster told ExWeb. However, her support team advised her to instead row further to Coruna, where they would rent a yacht to tow her safely to land.

By the time she arrived there the night fell and the tow boat Captain refused to go out in the dark. Maud is thus adrift at this point just outside off the northern Spanish coast as her support crew is trying to charter another tow boat.

As all this is taking place the wind is shifting - and Maud is drifting back out on the ocean.
