Third Rowing rescue in one week
image story

Nov 15, 2004 00: 02 EST
After two rowers were rescued last week, a third boat set out Friday. But the guys had barely launched their oars - before they too, were in trouble.

Rowing boat "Brittania" handled by Michael Perrens & Frank Gargan left the Canary Islands Friday afternoon for an Atlantic Crossing attempt, but already on Saturday the guys called for a rescue due to a foot steering problem.

According to The Ocean Rowing Society the private yacht "Holly Dee" set out to help on Saturday evening, but had to turn around due to seasickness.

The Spanish Coast Guard is now on site of the last reported position of Britannia. They are unable to see Britannia or reach the crew on telephone or VHF.

This is the third time rowers have had to be picked up by the Spanish Authorities in less than a week. On Friday November 12th, Italian rower Alex Bellini was ship wrecked on the rocks of Formentera (near Ibiza) and only three days earlier, on the 9th, Argentinean Rower Daniel Serenelli was rescued outside the Canary Islands.
