Tracy Chapman and drift anchors for Maud
16:56 p.m. EDT Sep 16, 2003
Maud has not made any progress in the past six days. The winds continue to push her away from the coast. She has employed both her drift anchors to stop the back drift.
Three months at sea has taken its toll and yesterday everything seemed hopeless to Maud. But today the sun came back and helped to improve her mood. The boat is still in back drift, but less than before, and Maud hope to soon lift the drift anchors and make progress again.
Listening to Tracy Chapman (one of Maud's favorites) on the radio, she thinks back to October 2002. Just a few days before the first payment on the construction of the boat was due, Maud had to decide whether or not to embark on this potentially dangerous adventure. That same song was playing at that time.
"It is absolutely necessary to hold on now, only a few more weeks!", she says.
French rower Maud Fontenoy set out from St. Pierre et Miquelon, Canada on June 13 in an attempt to become the first woman to row across the Atlantic West to East.
