The death toll from this week's earthquake and tsunamis is now expected to top 100,000. Parts of Sumatra, Andaman Islands, Nicobar Islands, Maldives and other are still out of reach for rescue workers in this 4th day of the disaster.

Military teams reaching the coasts of those remote places for the first time reported scenes of total devastation.

Urgent need for blood

Spokesmen for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies label the situation "a disaster of unprecedented proportion in nature. We're talking about a staggering death toll.'' There is an urgent need for Rh negative and O type blood in Thailand - find links below if you are in the area.

Missing people search

This time, the disaster hit not only the third world population, but thousands of western tourists. The survivors’ grief is made worse by the lack of information over the past days, which makes it hard to reconcile with the loss of their loved ones - often entire families. Mourning is interrupted by hope, however small.

A desperate search is now ongoing around the world for missing friends and family. ExplorersWeb compiled the main current cyber resources:

Lonely Planet | BBC message board | Thai hospital | Phuketitcity| PhuketPC| PhuketGazette| Phuket hospital| Red Cross Thailand| Red Cross India, Andaman, Nicobar>| Sneaknews.com
