Readers alerted us that David Williamson and Ben Woodcock are out on the first ever unaided sea kayak from New Caledonia to Australia (1500kms).
Canoe.org reports they should have left October 14, the first 6 days to be paddled without sighting land, paddling in 4 hour shifts.
The seas average in height between 3 to 7 meters of swell on top of local seas. If all goes according to plan, Ben and David will land near Cairns early November.
After the initial 6 days, David and Ben will rest on small sand cays, reefs and islets, munching on cold meals and energy bars and while they can take some water with them, the rest they must pump by hand using a desalination device, at a rate of only 900ml an hour. Their only contact out are SMS every few days.
