"April 6th. I nip into the house for lunch and the phone rang. John McMillan from Scotland is on the other end. He asked me what I thought about his international negotiating company becoming the title sponsor. I think that’s a “YES!” John, being a fellow sailor, found out about me through reading an article in April’s Yachting World magazine. (What if he hadn’t bought that month’s magazine?) An enormous weight is lifted from me even though it is all still very unreal."

Youngest woman to solo sail around the world

Last we checked in with Roslin Forrests (March this year) she was uncertain of her voyage - suffering from limited funds.

But with that now taken care off, ExplorersWeb will be following Roslin this fall and into next year on her great voyage.

Roslin will attempt to become the youngest woman to sail around the world single handed and non-stop.

22 years of age, she is working everyday, twelve hours a day, on her Columbia 34’ sailboat christened 'Stargazer' preparing for the trip. She will be departing from Vancouver for her non-stop solo circumnavigation attempt in late September.

Some records in the realm of round-the-world sailing are; Ellen MacArthur, British, 24yrs 7 months, youngest woman to sail around the world solo, non-stop and unassisted. 3 months to finish. Jesse Martin, Australian, 18 yr., youngest male to sail solo, unassisted, non-stop around the world. Kay Cotte, New Zealand woman, first to sail solo, unassisted, and non-stop. Jon Sanders, Australian, first to ever sail three times around, unassisted, non-stop.

Roslin Forrest is attempting to become the youngest woman to sail around the world single handed and non-stop. From Vancouver she sails south until Chile’s Cape Horn. Heading east in the Southern Ocean all the way to New Zealand’s Southwest Cape then heading north in the Pacific again and home to Vancouver. She will pass all five capes and pass through all necessary meridians as set out by the World Speed Sailing Record Counsel. Based on a conservative 100nm/day, she will leave in late September 2004 and estimates a return in less than 10 months.

Roslin will be departing from Vancouver for her non-stop solo circumnavigation attempt in late September 2004.
